Offcut Coffee Table

April, 2024

40" L x 25" W x 16" H

Materials: Steel Square Rods, Steel Flat Stock, Patina, Wax

Ash, Sapele, Oak, Walnut, Cedar, Plywood, Polyx Wax Oil

Media: Cold Saw, Belt Sander, MiG, Angle Grinder, Table Saw, Panel Saw, Festool Domino Joiner

The Offcut Coffee Table uses the exact materials in its name: offcut pieces of wood. Rather than buying new lumber, I decided to upcycle left over products from previous projects. The lack of joinery amongst the blocks allows a full range of customization so that people can rearrange and design their own table top.

The metal frame maintains a simple and neutral appearance to highlight the uniqueness of each wood types while also sporting a second tier of rods for extra storage space. What started as a metal table fabrication project transformed into a creative and sustainable reuse of offcuts that celebrates the beauty in unwanted by-products.
